QUIET QUESTIONS
Ka'ie'ie Waho
Channel northwest of O'ahu and southeast of Kaua'i. 72 miles wide and 1,088 meters deep. Longest and deepest channel of the 8 Hawaiian islands.
These deep sea hallucinations are something that never would have came to mind until I met another incredible artist friend "mystos" and "moing moing" that has a Wa'a (hawaiian canoe) that uses no modern navigation instruments just the stars and the sun. Well, this one experience of this particular huaka'i (adventure) was from Kaua'i island back to O'ahu. It was the middle of the day, minimal sleep, the intense heat of the sun, and open ocean gifted us the beauty of the feeling of another world. We could not see the horizon and it literally felt we were navigating in the sky. Moving forward still, an interesting experience took forms of different humans and sea animals. Very interested in this state of mind, which lead me to reflect on this when i got home and inspired me into a non-stop frenzy of creation. The next interesting experience of many was on our voyage from O'ahu to Kaua'i, after staring at the stars for hours in the middle of Ka'ie'ie Waho channel headed northwest, my gaze faced south toward O'ahu. Very clearly in the distance the stars in the most subtle way transformed into a very defined face of a Polynesian ancestor. Closing my eyes multiple times he would come back again. This happened about twice, for a moment long enough for the message to be relayed to me. The fire within burned with a powerful motivation when self-reflecting after the voyage. To be as close as possible to describing this face my best explanation to picture this would be, a Herb Kane painting of one of those voyaging ancestors. The intensity of the beauty was beyond words. After experiencing this joy and excitement of all the missions voyaging with the ocean, my soul now feels nourished and honored to be a part of this world.Today the feeling of going back to a place of crime and expensive gas prices and buildings seems like a stab in the heart. But my grace for life and my new friends and family keep me going and remind me to never stop expressing myself. Months after my experience my research continued and found out the real meaning of Ka'ie'ie Waho. The 'ie'ie vine looks like a fire, which in the art below represents, which of course was created and incorporated before finding out any of this information.Ka'ie'ie: Named after the 'ie'ie vine, a native Hawaiian plantWaho: Means “outside,” “beyond,” or “outer”Below is a self portrait of myself at the full mercy of nature and finding this special beauty within myself.
